Vanity

Vanity

A Poem by Paula M. Potter

WE CLOAK OUR FLAWS IN BLANKET OF DENIAL

*

WE MUST NOT LET OTHERS SEE WHAT IS HIDDEN BENEATH

*

A GRAND ELUSION FOR ALL TO SEE

*

PRESENTED IN A BOW FOR THE UNIVERSE

*

KEEPING OUR FEELINGS CHAINED

TO A STONE WALL DEEP IN OUR SOUL

*

PLACING OURSELVES UPON A THROWN

*

NOT LETTING OTHER SEE HOW ALONE WE’VE GROWN

*

JUST TO MAINTAIN AN IMAGE APPROVED FOR VIEW

*

BREAKING THROUGH THE WALLS OF OUR TOMB

*

STEPPING OUT OF OUR CHRYSALIS FRESH AND NEW

*

LET GO AND JUST BE YOU

"Let go and just be you."

I really don't understand why people don't just be themselves. Why copy others? We are all unique in our own ways. Nothing is to be ashamed of! :)
