Lady Earth

Lady Earth

A Chapter by Brooklyn

I woke up in the room white again.
I was covered in a thin layer of sweat, but still somehow managed to shiver. Zoe was standing next to my bed with a bowl and washcloth. When she saw I was awake she gasped and ran towards the door.
"Scarlett! She's awake!" She called out.
I was to weak to tell her I wanted to speak to her in private and all I got out was a groan of pain.
There was the sound of running feet.
Scarlett appeared in the doorway and made her way towards me.
"Thank God you're all right! I was so worried. Don't you know better than to run into trouble? You were all burned and beat up! How did you even do that trick of yours? You should've just left the fighting to Zoe and Mr. Jones!"
Question after question popped out of her mouth. She was using a lot of hand movement and her fiery, red hair bounced around.
I realized she had been really worried, but all I could do was stare back at her with tired eyes.
At long last, Zoe came to my rescue.
She gently held Scarlett's arms down. "She's still weak, let her breathe some." She calmly whispered into her ear. There was soothing undertone to her words and Scarlett seeemed to calm down.
"I was just so worried." Scarlett mumbled.
Zoe's head nodded in understanding. "We all were, but let's get Audrey to Mr. Jones first. Ok?"
Scarlett just nodded her head.
They helped me into a presentable outfit and we made our way to Mr. Jones. I was half walking and half having to lean onto their shoulders.
The hallways were just as confusing as ever.
We finally entered the same office the fight was in. Everything was in order and intact. Even the left wall was standing. And Mr. Jones was sitting in the same spot.
The three of us sat in front of him. I was sweating and tired, but I was able to relax against the chair.
"This solves one mystery," Mr. Jones started, " Audrey, you're the element Earth, considering your little show with the roots. Quite impressive for a beginner. Usually the most a beginning could do was manipulate the dirt. Not surprised you passed out".
"Why are you not surprised?" Asked Scarlett.
"Energy overload." Zoe answered, " Using too much of your power is tiring".
Mr. Jones nodded. "Now Scarlett, you're either Air or Fire."
"If I'm one of them where's the other one?" Scarlett asked.
Zoe bit her bottom lip. "We're not exactly sure, but we're still looking for her."
I finally got the energy to ask, "Mr. Jones, why didn't you help Zoe fight that monster?"
His face wore a pained expression. Scarlett also seemed intrigued.
"Dear, touch my hand." he said, holding out his hand.
I tried to hold his hand.
Tried.
My hand passed right through.
