To the Missing

You were there beside me my friend as we advanced with our faces to the foe.

But in an instant you were gone.

Where you fell, we know not.

After the battle we could not find you.

But we know where you fell

Someday my friend, you will be found and laid amongst your friends who fell.

But you have not been forgotten by your kin nor your friends.

We mourn the loss of those not found as we mourn the loss of those who were found.

Your name has been etched in stone as with have others who were not found.

We remember you thus until the day you are found and given a proper eternal resting place.

So rest your spirit until that day we bring you home.

As you walk upon this hallowed ground remember those who lie beneath and have yet to be found.

Very moving piece. Made me think of Gallipoli.
