Row upon Row

Row upon Row

A Poem by Robert Aitken
"

In New Zealand every year on April 25th we celebrate ANZAC Day, which is our day of remembrance for those who given their lives in the service of the country be the armed forces or the merchant navy.

"

Row upon Row

(By Robert Aitken)

Row upon row

The crosses grow

In foreign fields, afar

Fathers and sons

Mothers and daughters

The young and the old

Faces to the slaughter

Being bold and brave

To the cold and the grave

Conflict will not bring peace

Yet mankind must exist by conflict

But all it brings is

Row upon row

The crosses grow

With poppies and roses

In foreign fields, afar

We seem as a species to be genetically programmed for conflict. How sad it is that so many, especially the innocent, continue to suffer for no real purpose at all, save greed.

We are by far, the most vicious predator of all and do not deserve this beautiful gift of a planet.

Beccy.
