![]() Future forgotten, a new beginningA Chapter by snk4211![]() Theo always felt different. Born abandoned by his parents and saved by kooky a ringmaster, he always thought life cursed him. Until he met his friend Seth, and for five yrs he thought they would![]() “What are you
to fate to give you the chance to defy it?” A lone man stood at the precipice
of a cliff, overlooking the landscape ravaged by dust and decay. No longer did
the fields bear green grass but dirty sand, and the animals no longer roamed
but left skeletal remains of where they once tread. “My name is
Theo!” The man hollered towards the sky, shaking his fist towards the gloomy
clouds that formed a horned dragon’s head. He pointed a single finger towards
its glowing yellow eyes. “And I don’t give a s**t about chance! You ruined my
home!” Seconds flew
by in a heavy silence, and soon the air filled with a booming cackle" feminine
and harsh. “Then wake up little man! Take a chance" and see.” The man’s
fist retreated hesitantly to his sides, and he blinked with a scowl forming
slowly on his lips. Once, and then twice, he blinked, until the scenery of a dead
landscape no longer consumed his view, and a bright new dawn blinded his
vision. The blue sky
was filled with brilliant light, calm and peaceful, and the little boy lay
peacefully on the trunk of a large oak tree. Gingerly he clawed at the ground,
digging into the soft dirt, and pulling out green blades of grass covered in dew. He looked
up, spotting green fields as wide as the sea, barricaded by tall stone walls. Beyond
those walls a dark cloud hung over the sky, and the wind breeze reeked of a
rotten stench. The boy smiled
as the stench morphed to the scent of spring. “Why are you
smiling like a fool Theo?” Another boy asked, a few paces standing in front of
the boy called Theo. Theo averted his eyes lazily at him to stick out his tongue. “Because it
is a beautiful day.” The boy recoiled,
stunned, and wiggled his nose in discontentment. Compared to Theo, the boy looked like a mouse,
dark in complexion with light dusted freckles across his cheeks. His auburn
hair was slicked back, hiding under a leather cap while Theo’s was wild and free.
They both wore trousers with suspenders, but the boys were well kempt"neat.
Theos’ trousers were a shade darker green, with patches of different colors and
stitches to repair the holes. Both wore a white collared shirt underneath, and
both had black boots. Theo’s boots were polished with mud while Seths boots bore
a shine that reflected the clouds. Theo stood up with a stretch and a yawn, his neck wrapped in a shawl of red that brushed gently against his back. He patted the top of the mousy boy’s head like an older brother and lightly chuckled. “Quit being slacked jaw, Seth” He looked towards the sun with a loud sigh. “It’s a pretty day.” The mousy boy smacked Theo’s hand away, huffing as he stuffed his hands into his trouser pockets. “Yea, well.” A slight red tinted Seth’s cheeks as he turned away sheepishly.
“Pretty day or no, it will go to waste if you stay there sleeping.” Seth started
stepping down the hill and towards a bundle of makeshift tents. He pointed excitedly
to a large, decorated tent pointing towards the sky like a mountain and squealed.
“The strongarm said he had a new trick to show us, and you know the harpy right
now is probably on my trail. Rotten cur, drowning in jewels I pay her and still
won’t leave me be to enjoy the day.” A smirk coiled on Theo’s lips as he rushed beside the smaller boy, interrupting his rant with a bump of his shoulders. His gaze shifted to the peaceful horizon and towards the dark clouds. “That cur is your mentor, Seth. She’s paid in jewels by your
pa to keep you away from the rabble.” Theo checked him again and pointed his
thumb proudly to his chest with a smug grin. “Rabble like me.” “Young
sir.” Seth mimicked with a slight drawl to his tone. “You cannot have
fun and enjoy the day with your friends. You must remain here to die
amongst the ancient tomes while I use my giant bosoms to sip my tea.” Theo chuckled,
and absentmindedly slowed his steps to a halt, deep blue eyes glazed with a sparkling
glint. “Now you’re just being mean, can’t fault the woman for the gift Sol and Viridis
gave her.” A smirk formed across his face.
“No matter how big.” Seth brushed
him off with a wave. “Overrated at best, muscle man is more impressive.” Theo’s brows shot up, glaring curiously at Seth who started to ramble about the muscle man’s impeccable abs, and then he shrugged it off with a knowing smirk. His smirk dropped as he murmured. “Would it be okay to just skip a day? Just to relax and enjoy the life given to us by Sol?” A second passed by, and a resounding smack on his head cut off his words. He blinked,
puzzled at Seth, and he rubbed the back of his head that started to ache. Seth
quickened his pace towards the tents, his eyes focused on the tall stone walls across
the horizon. “In order to
do that we’d have to be free, and a rich man can never see beyond the walls they
set.” “What?” Theo
muttered, worried for his friend sudden ominous tone. Seth glimpsed at him, his lips curling into a forlorn smile. “Maybe that’s why I like you Theo, maybe that’s why I’d rather goof off with you who see beyond the walls than study with a useless big chested cougar.” Theo wiggled
his nose, fighting off the itch of Seth’s displeasing words, and Seth set off in
a sprint, with nothing but a chuckle following his wake. “Don’t think
too much Theo! You might catch a cold!” A mad trail of laughter faded with Seth’s
shrinking form, and Theo chased after him in a sprint" a goofy grin forming
slowly on his lips. © 2025 snk4211Author's Note
