Help

“Come out, little boy!”

The rustling of the doorknob was relentless

Mom told me to go in my room

She would come and get me when it’s safe…

It’s been an hour

“You can’t hide forever!”

I covered my ears

In my head

Mom’s screaming

Gunshots

Nothing

Tormenting silence

Now, he’s coming for me

The door knob might not last…

“Wait a second… Ah! There we go!”

He’s in

My body tensed from under my blanket

My eyes closed, my flushed cheeks soaked

Can my covers save me from this monster?

Footsteps loudened

He’s next to me

Even underneath my shield of cotton

I could smell his rancid breath

I felt the covers retract

My eyes opening to an abhorrent glare

A barrel of steel grazed against my temple

“Why are you up past your bedtime, Son? Here. I’ll tuck you in, permanently.”
