"

"
Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re, Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re,

Jodi keu kotha na koe, ore ore o obhaga, keu kothana koi
Jodi shobai thake mukh firaee shobai kore bhoe, jodi shobaai thake mukh phiraae shobai kore bhoi"
Tobe poran khule
O tui mukh fute tor moner kotha ekla bolo re.

Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re, Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re,

Jodi shobai fire jae, ore ore o obhaga, shobai phire jai
Jodi gohon pothe jabar kale keu fire na chae, jodi gohon pothe jabar kale keu phire naa chaai"
Tobe pother kata
O tui roktomakha chorontole ekla dolo re

Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re, Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re,

Jodi alo na dhore, ore ore o obhaga,
Jodi jhor-badole adhar rate duar dee ghore"
Tobe bojranole
Apon buker pajor jalie nie ekla jolo re.

Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re, Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe tobe ekla cholo re,

(English)
If no-one heeds your call - then walk alone If no-one speaks (to you), O unlucky one, if non-one speaks (to you), If everyone turns away, if everyone fears (to speak), then with an open heart without hesitation speak your mind alone If everyone walks away, O unlucky one, everyone walks away If no-one looks back towards the (your) unpredictable path, then with thorn pricked (of the path) bloodied feet, walk alone If no-one heeds your call - then walk alone If no-one shines a light (on the path), O unlucky one, If the dark night brings a storm at the door - then let the lightening ignite the light in you alone to shine on the path If no-one heeds your call - then walk alone.

This is one of the many masterpieces by Tagore. I really admire the words in this creation because it tells the truth - in the beginning and in the end, there is a walk that has to be completed alone. I tried to understand the obsession that Tagore had with walking alone and then got to know that the feelings, the emancipation of the soul has an individual experience. As Ramkrishna Paramhansa also said - 'once a doll made of mud immerses itself in the sea, there is no trace of it left.'

ah embrace what is within you and without you...a great mantra. I have walked many times in what I thought was alone and found that I was not for not only was there self but solace. We must walkit like we talkit says some rapper I cant recall but the vision of being is a great one. I m thinking I shall find much study in your words and thoughts...thank you for the reminders and the challenge.

Not overly nor underly aware of this work I still find the voices that ask. "What is it to be a poet in a time of importance, in a time when you must make a choice (not easy) but show that your stance is one of peace. One that you must make at times, if only to go to another country as it is surely a strange honor as well as a terrifying one. One where if you follow, feeling that you must to find the voice that was sent to you, and sent into that center where the tiger's teeth are shown in force as well as pause. Again I must smile, finding it strange that I have only recently come into his light and even within days begun to know the word, the sound, His name, His light that has poured down upon me as "Tagore", but deeming all things with importance and meaning, as it does seem to be a purposeful universe out there as well as in here, I must thank you once again for the reminder that all rivers have a course and perhaps an importance beyond these words that fall here,,, today in my room as both the overbearing elephant as well as the droplets of snow flakes that have entered to share their message.I am more that an overwhelmed reader of words. I am the ever attendant season come to my doorstep that seems odd at first but with time I will see my place belonging here and so the lessons will continue to astound ...thus I feel this a spiritual force telling me to show my appreciation as it is greatly deserved, Thank you once more for your sharing of the enlightenment. And stop freaking me out with your timing...hahahhaha..just kidding as I am enjoying your timing most wonderfully!

He's my ever favourite poet and I, his little admirer!
Ya know Rabindranath Tagore is the one who wrote my country's national anthem...and whenever I sing that, I get goosebumps...dunno why!
All of his poetry in my Bangla textbook is just fascinatingly absolute poems....
This "Ekla Cholo" is the greatest motivation of my life from him.....No doubt he and his life is one of a kind....A Salute to the great Rabindranath Tagore....
Am really happy you wrote about him and his work....Thanks for sharing Sneh! :)
