Hmmm. I definitely enjoyed the way the lines of your second stanza were interconnected. Before I go any further--and, bear in mind that I tell every single poet that I review--that I am not a very good poetry reviewer. I try my hardest, but oftentimes my interpretations are miles off of what the poet intended. If you have any short stories that need reviewing, I'm your gal. Poetry...like I said. I'll try my hardest.
I agree that victory doesn't seem to last...but then, I disagree. From experience I know that even the tiniest of victories can have a lasting impact on someone who has never won before. Coming out in first place, even just once, can be the tiny flame that fuels a perpetual loser to continue their fight to the top.
But then there's the argument that those who always win won't be on top forever. No one can be victorious every single time. I can see that point of view. I guess there are two ways you can go with that.
As for defeat...I can relate to this, too. Losing is a slap of reality. It shows you that you aren't perfect (and some people definitely need to hear that) and it really does lead to an open mind. I know that one should always chase their dreams, but if you've lost uncountable times...shouldn't you have an open mind? Try something else...and in effect, live life?
This was wise. I could really sense your calm, matter-of-fact tone, as if you know both victory and defeat all too well. Although this is the first piece that I've read from you, I can already tell that you write poetry with a state of mind that is more mature than I've seen from some adults. Teenage poets far and wide are striving to get to the stage that you are at now. (Not me... I'm a short story gal. I've tried poetry a couple times, but...meh.)
Anyway, sorry for the drab review. Great poem!

I'm poor at thanks. So thank you. That was a fantastic review.
Stanza one is life, but the prize is in the days it takes the petals to slowly fade and fall..
love that stanza.. defeat is a hard unhappy truth, I love that second stanza too! it ends hopeful :)
I have often told my children that how you behave in defeat is the true measure of your character. We learn from our disappointments, our victories are like mist and they eventually burn away leaving little in their wake. This poem is filled with wisdom.
