Is this what we risk?A Poem by Snape13Is this what we risk by searching for love? The crippling severance from not only the person of our
affection, but from ourselves? The fire of desolation raging, burning away within our
souls, leaving nothing more than a flicker of what we once were. Shattered, forced to attempt to put together even an
outlined version of our former selves. Left feeling the immobilizing stabs of loneliness, the restricting icy clutch of despondency. Is this what we risk by searching for love? Reaching for the hopeful promise of passion and fulfillment,
only then to fall short and have it ripped away from our
grasp, left feeling its last breathe of existence, a whisper of what could have been. Getting too close to the flames, only to be betrayed by our own heart. The possibility of love slipping through our fingers, clutching only at the air that has been knocked out of our
bodies, a gasp of realization that the fire that annihilates our
very core still rages on. Is this what we risk by searching for love? Looking into the lives of those in love, untouched by its dark and debilitating powers, another twist of the knife that is rooted deep in our hearts.
A harsh reminder of what had been ripped from inside, a harsh reminder of the emptiness that is left over. The restricting fear that that emptiness may never be
filled, That our former lives never be rebuilt continues to bear its
hold. Is this what we risk by searching for love? © 2014 Snape13Author's Note
