The Seed

The Seed

A Poem by Snapdragon

She placed the little seed in
his outstretched hand,

together they peered at it
sitting in his palm,
mottled green and brown,
almost bursting with life.

She closed his fingers
around the seed.

"This is a gift,"
she said earnestly.
"You can take it and plant it,
water and nurture it,
let it open to the sun
and prune it as
it grows stronger
day by day.

"Or you can
carelessly toss it aside and
let it blow in the wind.

Either way it will bloom.

"The question is whether
it grows in your garden
or takes root in someone else's."

I have to say i love this snappy. So fresh and so well written.Your words are fluid, easy and yet like the seed you write about here they contain a myriad of meanings in them.
I stretched this seed to an analogy for life in general(i believe you have done so too..?)..a human life too grows no matter what, grows as life bursts open in front of him or her,it just depends what path he or she chose for themselves.
Thank you for your words my friend :)

LIFE. I love this piece because i can feel the passion of life, nature, and the elements coursing through every line. It's something special, not seen very often, a piece that showcases what writing can be. Beautiful. The last stanza is the ribbon.

The underlying meaning overshadows the simplicity raising the poem up to new heights. The "seed" can be taken in so many contexts and will ultimately mean different things to different people.

Well done.

With our ears and eyes conditioned to the poetic form we can read a piece like this not only at face value but interpret the suggestions infused within. It's with this in mind your poem shines with wisdom in the message that we all have gifts that are within us, but it's up to us to nurture those gifts. You have done just that with your writing and we who read it are all appreciative for it.

""The question is whether

Loved that!

Its amazing how much possibility we hold in our hands sometimes?

This was great, glad I got to read it.

I guess we are often given seeds and do not always treat them with the respect they deserve... so that they are lost rather than cherished... I liked the idea - which here spoke of the possibility of an offered relationship - for the taking and cherishing - or leaving to another...

Neat, perceptive, to the point
