Below the Night Above

Below the Night Above

A Poem by SnapDragon96
"

This is written about one of my friends who, no matter what, seems to have a bad day. It is an optimist talking about a pessimist's view.

"

Below the Night Above

The night is clear,

The moon is bright,

Stars speckle the sky,

Snow on the lid of the world.

But while above stays clear,

Below is fogged, misted, hazed.

The windows are glazed over.

Water on the thin. Panes.

Yet none has trickled down.

The night is still,

The moon is well,

The stars paint the sky.

But their light scarcely reaches the bottom.

The candles will call.

The street lights attempt.

Will even the brightest day shed light below?

I believe so.

Author's Note

SnapDragon96
This poem uses a lot of juxtapostion and symbolism to emphasize the contrast between the outside world and inner conflict. In the second stanza, "panes" can be either a noun (as in window pane) or the verb "pains". Not sure if there is a rhetorical term for this but I would love to know the name if there is one. Any feedback is more than welcome!
