Taklifon Kahaani (Part 1)A Story by KaCy SmylistIn Spanish, Mandria means 'Weakling'. The main character of this story lives up to her name, with her feelings of weakness caused by the attacks of I'van (her emotional demon) who taunts her.Taklifon Kahaani October 3rd Rain fell nonstop on this gloomy, Autumn day. With each drop of rain released by the clouds, a passing wind swept away the body of a dying leaf. Consequently, this was just another ordinary day in Fall for the townspeople of Overlea. Their routines carried on as usual-women shopping and dining, children playing, and families spending time with one another. In the house of Walther, however, there sat a lonely young girl who longed for such happiness and contentment, even on dreary days like this one. Alone in the dark sala of her home, she sat, thinking and daydreaming (she was well-known for doing this). Soon, though, she was approached by a familiar soul-“I’van”, she called him. For he was named after the 16th century Grand Prince of Moscow, Ivan IV Vasilyevich, also known as ‘Ivan the Terrible’. Like, the late Prince, I’van was a bully and a tyrant. And, evil was the air that he breathed. “Mandria! Mandria!” I’van called out to her. She could hear his voice, yet there was nobody there. “Did you miss me, Mandria? Why are you trying to escape me, Mandria?” Again, she looked around, but she saw no one. Covering her head with her hands, she formed herself into a ball, and attempted to block him out. With every fiber of her being, she was fighting not to succumb to the influence of I’van, crouching at her door. “Mandria!” I’van called out one last time. “You will never defy me!” … As Mandria came to her senses, an overwhelming feeling of guilt and depression weighed down on her heart. Soon, Mandria realized that she had lost this battle once again, and I’van was nowhere to be heard. “I will never win. And, I will never escape.” She said to herself. Is it possible to escape what is a part of oneself? For, I’van is not a living, physical person. But, he is her inner demon that that plagues her, taunts her, he controls her thoughts, and feeds the addiction she tries to overcome. He visits as often as he chooses to. And, he isn’t satisfied until he is fed. “Oh well.” Mandria says, quietly “He’s gone for now.” © 2015 KaCy SmylistAuthor's Note
