Don't Let It Swell Your Head!

Don't Let It Swell Your Head!

A Chapter by Gia

Marylin attached her seat belt to the buckle, "Did you hear that Ma? The Jenkins man said that he has good plans in store for me!" Mrs. Schmidt turned her head backwards so that she could reverse and at the same time she said " I know, but I hope you don't change because all of this... again." Marylin looked depressed all of a sudden " Are you saying you are not proud of me then?" Mrs. Schmidt pushed the gears in drive and began to look forward, " Who couldn't be proud of a daughter who's going places? It's just the places you go that worries me the most." The rest of the 42 to miles from the studio to their condo was pretty silent except for the birds chirping and the constant beeping of horns. Marylin just couldn't get what her mother said off her mind. Every time she is getting somewhere in life, the people she gets from that 'somewhere' always seems to be the wrong peers. It's just that Marylin should stop being so vulnerable and have her own mind .

"Are you going to call your dad?" Mrs. Schmidt asked as she opened the front door. "  I guess so, he'll be wondering what happened today and if I got here safely so.. I will." Marylin dropped her bags and picked up the cordless phone and looked around the same condo she goes to every summer, the chips' bags and the cans of empty sodas were still there from the party her peers had thrown last summer. Mrs. Schmidt stared at Marylin and the phone, " Has he picked up yet?" Marylin motioned for her mother to be quiet.
"Hello, Schmidts' residence, who's this?"
"The one and only Pops!"
"Marylin, so good to hear you came to Hollywood safely."
Marylin gave off a little chuckle.
"How'd it go today?"
"The best dad! We met this guy named Henry who introduced us to this man named Jenkins who owns the place and Jenkins told us that he has good plans in store for me!"
"Well isn't that the BOMB! What did Ma say about it?"
Marylin began to whisper.
" She doesn't like it one bit, she thinks I'll screw up again"
"I'm sure you won't, you've mature from last summer. Any ways, let me speak to her."

Marylin handed the phone to her mother and whispered " He's wants to speak to you" Mrs. Schmidt nodded and took the phone from her daughter. Her mother and father was talking on the phone for a couple of minutes when she heard her mother say bye and hung up the phone. " So! What are we going to do with this dirty place?" Mrs. Schmidt asked after she have completely hung up the phone. "Can I please have a nap first?" Marylin whined. Mrs. Schmidt sighed. "Whenever you say nap, you  mean sleep for the night. Besides, it's going to be 9 o'clock, you should take a rest saying you've gotten up so early this morning and you rode 152 miles." Marylin didn't answer but she went ahead and took  a bag of chips and her laptop out of her suit case and headed off to her room. "Ditcher!" her mother called out as her daughter went up the stairs. " I know right!" Marylin called back. On her laptop Marylin searched up ways to stop being vulnerable and at 12 o'clock midnight she drifted off to sleep.
