Surrender

Surrender

A Poem by Becca
"

A Villanelle

"

Summer’s pastel attire
Quivers with apprehension
Yielding to her cloak of fire

Facing the inescapable scorch
Drooping, bending, swaying
Summer’s pastel attire

Tints of patchwork bliss

Suffocate in earthy hues
Yielding to her cloak of fire

The unbridled merciful swoosh
Signals their timely demise
Summer’s pastel attire

A season topples on cue
Crumbling weedy and lifeless
Yielding to her cloak of fire

Leaving resplendent hillsides
Purple, yellow, orange, and red
Summer’s pastel attire
Yielding to her cloak of fire

Splendid! A beautiful poetic expression of Fall...in a Villanelle. Probably one of the most beautiful poems of Autumn I have ever read. Your first two lines set a mood that is carried throughout the entire piece. I like that thought of summer quivering with apprehension...it days are numbered. Wow. Very well done....I tip my hat to you.

This feels like it's about the transition from spring to summer. It feels hot ...sweltering and oppressive. I wilt with the patchwork.

Your words are stiflingly descriptive.

I live in a mostly ever-green woods area. Not very many trees that turn into the traditional colors and most of them turn brown and that its. You make me almost envy you.

Damn D.L. beat me to reviewing first! How did he get here 7 minutes after it was posted? lol

Another well crafted Villanelle! You make this form look so easy and I am a bit jealous. The only thing I can see wrong is that you swayed a bit from the "a" scheme. i.e. pastel beauties should rhyme with cloak of fire. But that's only necessary if we're going to be "stuffy" and I know how much you like stuffy... lol..

I love the word "resplendant"... I don't know why, maybe because it snaps off the tongue. Your imagery is leaping out of the screen, and it surprises me not that the first color you listed was purple (: Wonderfully done!

Very nicely done! What a beautiful way to write of summer turning to fall (Yielding to her cloak of fire.) Quite an impressive poem, St. Violet!
