In Stillness-Standing 4

In Stillness-Standing 4

A Chapter by Becca
"

# 4 in a series of my Soul's Journey

"

In our class a boy appeared

distinct from all the rest

Adorned with nappy hair

shabby shirt on scrawny chest

Oh how the ridicule, the gossip

shot hot arrows dipped in hate

Sad eyes downcast in dark tears

could not my soul forsake

Perhaps a reflected piece of me

shone from his mulatto face

Soon to be the best of friends

linked through His saving grace

Twisted arrows filled with malice

banished me now from their kind

Blind by wickedly perverted blight

no one saw- I had resigned

Wrenching angst descended swift

as the swoosh designed to kill

Family didn’t really notice much

simply hid the sleeping pills

Those years now tucked in memory

as our friendship dimmed and drifted

Knowing by His winnowing fan

the chaff from wheat was sifted

I am a Woman- Still

Standing in the Gift of Embracing

Gift received- age 11

Good Morning,

I wish my scanner worked I would send you a picture of the roly poly 5th grader I was, once upon a time.

They think they are shutting you out. What they don't realize is, you never wanted in... in the first place.

Square peg, that is what I think of when I see that girl I used to be.

How wordy are these reviews supposed to be? I'm not sure all that I say is constructive...? ....?

I had a friend as well. She was the new kid in my 3rd grade class. We became fast friends... fellow square peg you know. That did not satisfy her as the years went on... 6th grade, she desired the attention that being part of the popular group could bring. I could not shave off the angles to fit in, I didn't want to... I could go on but, that is not constructive...

The gift today is... "Embracing"... being willing to hold on to things others might reject... yes I see that. It's partner is discernment... knowing what parts of life are not worthy of your embrace... hmmm (sigh) Bec, do you have a step by step for that one?

I would say I love your poem but, you should already know that... have a great day.

Kristina

Aha! Huh? lol... This one is a bit mysterious as it poses more questions than it answers. I love it though, as the metaphores are so well used.

I always tried to be nice to the kids that everyone else rejected. Though, most times I found out why they were rejected in the first place. I can relate to this piece, however, as we had a kid in seventh grade who was an outsider and not really noticed. Until one day he died of carbon monoxide poisoning. It was a shame, how everyone missed him so, but no one gave a damn about him when he was alive. I will never forget that.

See that? Now you got me reflecting... lol... It is a powerful piece if you can achieve that goal. Wonderful job!

Funny Becca how your stories always remind me of stuff from my own life. When I was four my mother and I lived in a not very nice neighborhood. My mother worked nights and slept most of the day. The neighbor boys, 6 and 7 year olds, would beat me up and drop spiders down my shirt telling me they were black widow spiders. However the nextdoor neighbor was a 5 year old black boy and he beat the s**t out of the older boys and then escorted me to his house to play. It became a daily ritual. I would come out to play and he would escort me in safety to his yard.
