Jesse

Jesse

A Poem by Becca
"

Childhood Sweetheart -1955-1972

"

White haired Jesse donned a mohawk

devoured life through sky blue eyes

At seven he tried to kiss me

a decade before he died

Jesse thrived on adventure

and much too dangerous sport

Whether in a backyard playhouse

or our secret woodsy fort

Jesse was a renegade

and child wild as could be

We peddled Schwinn's together

down hill no hands and free

Jesse made the headlines

one gruesome December eve

Head-on into a coal truck

his speed a hundred and three

Wow. You did this so very well. It is beautifully poetic and rhythmic with music that sings of both good times and loss. It is a beautiful tribute. Takes me back a few. We used to ski, race. I can remember when my sister was clocked at 90 hitting a snow fence............nasty leg breaks. Same day Billie hit a tree clocked at 103....dead at15.

I have never experienced such a loss, I am not sure how to comment.

It's a very moving piece Bec. It could be made into a song, a mournful lament that somehow, ends with hope. Hope in the realization that Jesse is as free now, as the days he spent flying on bicycles with you. It's hard to be the one left behind with only memories...

Luv ya

Kristina

I don't know what the heck to make of this! What an ending! I suppose it is fitting, but so many fond memories and then it is all over. I suspect that you had that in mind when writing it, but holy cow is it a moving piece! It just goes to show you how fleeting life can be. Terrific job! It reads like a folk song and the fondness of memories shines true.
