Give them a foot they will take a mile.

Give them a foot they will take a mile.

A Poem by SmittyJas
"

Story of love and reflection

"

I learned this fact for my childhood up
Give them a foot they will take a mile
Is it in the way they think or play
With our minds they think they can get over on us all

I was told come when your call
Do what your told
Speak when your spoken to
and listen to every word Mother said

We never gave any back talk
We never spoke out of anger
we were in the house at supper time
and it was time to go home when the street lights came on

It's 11:00 Pm do you know where your children are
Life was simpler then
We lived in fear
Of what our parents would say or do

So our behavior was on the check list
Every Day and Every Night

In our area there are so many children living in foster care I wonder how both parents turned out bad. Valentine

Gee
How very, very true.Respect, that was instilled into us at an early age, admittedly sometimes with an ear ringing slap or a kick up the arse, but in the main no harm done and a better breed of child raised. Many of today's kids roam wild, feral,up to all sorts, touch them and they bring the law into action.THEY NEED A GOOD SLAP !!!!!Enjoyed this piece.

You do speak truth. Your poetic truth that "It's 11:00 Pm do you know where your children are
Life was simpler then" (SmittyJas, 2016) Our parents were very involved.
