For Zara

For Zara

A Poem by SmileySerge

For Zara

The day we brought you home from that miserable place
It's etched into our memories; the look on Topsey's face
You charged through the house, a massive bundle of fun
Think Mum and Dad wondered what the hell they had done

You came at a time when we were a family in need
You filled the empty space and slowly our hearts healed
Now that you're the one who left and had to say goodbye
I'm not sure what we'll do; I guess we can only try

You were such a massive presence right from the start
It didn't take long for you to completely steal our hearts
A carrot, a yogurt pot and a run around the park
Keeping your pack together and guarding in the dark

We were proud to walk with you, all strength and attitude
You loved your daddy to pieces and you'd do anything for food
I'd give my life right now to hold that fluffy womble paw
To kiss you on the nose, and lie with you on the floor

Time seemed to pass far too quick and suddenly you got old
Grey never sold its secrets, your coat always black and gold
Thank you for that one last belch; you were a lady until the end
Thank you for being our dog; and thank you for being our friend

I'll never forget your beautiful face, the world I knew has shattered
When you strip life down to basics, love is all that really matters
We loved you unconditionally and we really hope that you knew
You were so far away from perfect and that was the best thing about you

How does a family of five become a family of four?
Who is going to tell us there is someone at the door?
The house is far too quiet; and the garden is too
But when we pause for a moment, we can still sense you

We can either remember you and only that you're gone
Or we can cherish your memory and help let it live on
We know you're with the others now and it's us who are left to cry
You won't suffer in doggy heaven, but we just weren't ready to say goodbye

You and your soul will never really leave our home
You're always in our hearts and you will never be alone
You can run wild and free but no matter where you stray
We will be running with you, every minute of every day.

Thats a lovely poem for a Dog. Serves as an inspiration, for us, about our Pets.

What a lovely tribute to a pet You got the rhyming right, but I though some of the lines might have been a bit long. But I can just see the dog and feel how badly missed she is. I like the ending.
