Heiroglyphics

Heiroglyphics

A Poem by Andromeda
"

doesnt make total sense, but makes sense enough. symbolically.

"

The first thing she heard

Was the beat of her own heart,

Deep within her chest:

Beating with fear as she

Faced the obelisk –

She’d heard it to be hard

                Maybe more than hard

To face a world written over

In hieroglyphics,

But that was her world

                Now,

And the first thing she saw

Was the way the shadows

Hit the stone,

Shivering like her in a

Mysterious future all alone.

She’d heard it to be confusing

                Maybe more than that

To face the world, hoping to

Forget the past.

She ran her hand along the

Puzzle carved in stone,

Trying to decipher

A key to the world,

For a beaten life she

Could no longer

Condone.

She leaned her head

Against the obelisk,

Choosing this eerie,

Spider-web

Over the future that

Had been pre-written

Out for her in blood,

And the first thing she forgot

Was the way it used to feel,

Hiding in the dark,

Hoping for a code to

Teach her heart to heal,

And this obelisk, she knew,

Was the way,

Though others told her it was

Crawling into the dark to

Escape the day.
