Picnic Basket Love

Picnic Basket Love

A Poem by Andromeda
"

inspired by Benny and Joon

"

Summer all wrapped up in a picnic basket,

And nowhere else to go but

Sit in our separate shells and pretend

We are alone

As we ever were,

Pretend we do not feel the

Summer singing in our hearts

That changes us to what we are today—

A fragile stare and a

Gentle touch,

Setting light to all the candles and

Finally letting it all go with a laugh—

Let summer out of the picnic basket,

And feel our hearts beat as fever: one,

And we can’t return to

Those separate shells

That we never were,

And even if the world sneers

In our faces,

We can see the traces of where

Life pulled us together,

Of where

We sung Summer forever,

And even if they all do not

Understand,

We hold

Forever

Together,

Summer out of the basket

And in our one, same hand—

Feel our hearts beat as fever: one

And we can’t return to

Those separate shells

That we never were.
