Mourning

Mourning

A Poem by Andromeda
"

play on words

"

He coughed as he

Breathed the dust of morning,

For he could not bear to

Squint his eyes against the sun

                        Once again

                        Ever again

Just please, Sun, go down again,

                        Just Sun go down and

Leave his life happy as she found,

When she came to see him

                        Welcome the Morning

He dreamed a death-sick writer’s dream

In the dust of beady morning’s Eye,

Dreamed of nightfall,

When all his cares were drowned

                        Once again

                        Ever again

                        Just please, Cares, drown again

                        Just Cares drown and

Leave his life happy as she found,

Before she cried to see him

                        Drown in Scotch the Mourning.

I love the play on words! It also seems like a progression from "morning" to "mourning" and I love that.
