Inspired by a Broken Clock

Inspired by a Broken Clock

A Poem by Andromeda
"

...as the title says

"

The clock ticks by—

            Tock ticks by—

In intermittent silence,

Saying this day has merely been a lie.

This day has been a lie,

            And I

            And I

            And I

Feel the wait of the hands

Pressing down,

Counting down,

Flicking by with all

The force of

A mule’s tail

            Whacking

            Whacking

Whacking at a fly

            And I

            And I

            Whacking

            At a fly.

Silly fly

Clock:

            Die

            Die

            Die

Clock ticks by

Tock ticks by

An intermittent silence

Has been

            (all but)

a lie

and i?

This poem is very good. To me this poem expresses what one feels when one ceases to believe in the illusions which govern daily life but does not quite make it to the understanding of God's truth. One is stuck in the middle, directionless (with neither truth or illusion) in the moment, staring at the clock which mocks you with the passing of time. Martin Heidegger would call the feeling of this moment "Angst" and i think this poem is one of the best i've read at capturing that feeling. great write! keep it up!
