The Girl Who Wrote the Fairytales

The Girl Who Wrote the Fairytales

A Poem by Andromeda
"

inspired by the drapes lol

"

As a child,

She was always the kind to

Hide behind the curtains,

Blowing hard to

Pretend she was a fire-breathing dragon,

Capable to not just

Move the drapes—

            Dance the drapes—

But also to

Move the words

Her mother said,

Move the words

Her father never did

Move the moments

When she felt

Her tears might leak

Like the spout

On the kitchen sink.

But soon

Her blowing-drape days were

Over

And she found—

            Unexpectedly—

A four-leaf clover:

The words that rambled through

Her head—

Everything she could not

Blow away

Turned to

Fairytales,

White-horsed knights,

And hairbreadth

Adventures instead.

I just absolutely love this. I can't stop reading it. I especially love these lines, "Blowing hard to/Pretend she was a fire-breathing dragon...Moves the words." It captured a moment where imagination and thought breeds creation. It also reminded me of myself who used to play in ditches as if they were hills that led to slay dragons.

I love the next stanza because I love the emphasis on words. I feel like that stanza is subjective and can take on different meanings. I don't usually like subjectivity, but I liked it here.

I really enjoyed the last stanza too. Going in my favorites for sure!

Thanks for posting! Have a great day!
