The Captain and the Island Girl

The Captain and the Island Girl

A Poem by Andromeda
"

story poem

"

It all started

With the swirl of the record player:

Rock and roll dancing round and round

By the ocean that the angels found.

It all started

With a look

Across the crowded floor—

A look that wanted more.

It all started

With the heat of daylight’s glare:

Island skirts spinning round and round

And Captain’s hat on his head like a crown.

It all ended

Fifty years after

His plane left Hawaii with war to find

And in her arms, he stayed behind.
