The Accident

The Accident

A Poem by Andromeda
"

i saw one on the way home...miraculously, the driver lived, and my prayers are w/ him

"

It was the same road as always—

The road with the trees that

Watched like vultures.

He’d driven it ten dozen times

For three dozen years.

It was the same road as always—

But today it betrayed him,

Cut his breath away in a

Smoke-rolling,

Metal-scraping

Crash,

Leaving his car as nothing but

A crinkled up aluminum can

On the same road he’d always

Taken.

As he lies in the stretcher,

His eyes flittering

Open and shut,

His feet pointed towards the

Sky,

The trees standing like

Vultures by,

The people watching and

Wondering how and why,

The same road he’d always taken

Utters an apologetic cry.

I KNOW this road. Been there, done that, and actually survived! This is so moving and touching.
