Apron Casserole

Apron Casserole

A Poem by Andromeda
"

idk?

"

The apron was finished—

She’d been knitting it

Laboriously

For as long as he’d been gone.

It was a present to herself

And she smiled as she tried it on.

He’d have liked to see her in it,

Would have liked some

Apron-approved

Mashed potatoes,

But he’d slammed the door

And gone.

She twirled the apron strings

Around her

Thin, pale fingers

And took a chapping knife and chopping board

From the drawer.

The apron strings were

The first to go—

And then the rest went next:

Chopped piece by piece

And

Tossed onto the stove.

She cooked him

Apron casserole

Should he

Ever come home.

haha! I likes it, but I think you mean "chopping knife" not "chapping knife"? Anyway, I like the humour, reminds me of A Doll House
