![]() Fire MonsterA Poem by Andromeda![]() after smoke (part 3)![]() The girl Began to Cry In tears of Jaded Sorrow As the Book Burners Stood And took no notice. If only they would take A notice— Though it meant her death, If only they would take a notice: Turn to her and Point at her and Nod their heads at each other suspiciously and Grab her by the arms and Drag her away Where the burning words Would not Ruin the light that had been day. But the Book Burners Just stood In some Sadistic Salute As the Words rejoined the atmosphere. She had to get out of here, But she could not just Simply turn and leave— The crowd pushed too hard at her back. She wondered if she would Burn The same color as the Words tossed so Haphazardly— Surreally— Into the Monster of the Fire: Fearsome monster it was, Which Snarled and Cracked its teeth And sent its blurry breath up Into the sky: Shades of sickly, dusty gray. The Monster which Grew And grew And grew And grew To devour what had been the day. She wondered if she would Burn The same color— Or would the Fire Monster Simply Spit her out? Or would the Fire Monster Chew her up As she screamed— As the Book Burners Watched Ever on?
