Nate

Nate

A Poem by Andromeda
"

playing around w/ words

"

Have you ever noticed that words

                        Taste

A certain way when you

                        Say them.

Instigate is

Sour, like sucking on a lime.

Exazzerbate is

Overly spicy, but that fake type of spicy—

            Like bad salsa.

Appreciate is

            Soft, like blue

            Cotton candy—

            Sweet and tickling your tongue.

Hate is

            Like jalapenos—

Burning your tongue and eyes and turning your face to sweaty mush:

            Too strong and conquering.

Berate is

            Annoying

            Like burnt popcorn

Or the aftertaste of bread in your mouth.

Salivate is

            Well-done steak,

            Perfect and melt-in-your-mouth.

Eventuate is

Like a tootsie-roll-pop, with a hidden chewy core.

Extenuate is

Slippery, like a noodle bathed in too much grease.

And your name—

Nate—

Tastes like the piece of candy that just fell on the floor:

            Tempting and certainly-sweet

            But

Repulsive:

A word that I

            Hate

Having once

            Ate
