Game of Cards

Game of Cards

A Poem by Andromeda

Tossing about two hours—

Juggling time for a

Ceaseless lifetime—

Wasting it all on inspiring,

Always-won card games.

Tossing the world around like

A pair of twos:

A heart

And a diamond.

Hiding love away

Like the Ace of Spades,

Saving it for the end of the

Final day.

Hiding an extra card

Just in case—

In case the

Table crashes and

The money gets all

                        Spent.

Throwing the Joker away—

Its purpose was

                        Spent

With its creation—

(At least, in both

This game and

Gotham City).

Holding on to the other Joker and

Using it as

A funny type of bookmark.

Bending down the corner of the
Queen of Diamonds and

Saving it for a never-coming,

Circumstantial,

Philosophical,

Figurative Rainy Day.

            Keeping a wary eye

            On the Jack of Spades.

Tossing about:

A million shiny pennies and

A year of hard work

And

A lifetime of calmly-earned breaths:

Calmly-breathed breaths.
