Chicken Noodle Soup

Chicken Noodle Soup

A Poem by Andromeda
"

...

"

He dumped her over a bowl of chicken noodle soup.

She watched the noodles float along so

Obediently

As she swirled her spoon impulsively—

Something to do with her hands

While

There was nothing to say

And nothing to stop her heart from

Boiling over.

She studied the viscosity of the broth as he said that he’d like to still be friends.

She watched the oily bubbles drift along so

Disturbingly

As she tipped her bowl round and round—

Something to do with her hands

While

There was nothing to say

And nothing to stop her heart from

Boiling over.

He reached across the table to hand her a napkin to dry her eyes.

She watched her spoon spin along so

Robotically

As she whipped her spoon around and around in the cold soup—

Something to do with her hands

While

There was nothing to say

And—

Oh Hell,

For once chicken noodle soup couldn’t

Make her well.
