A Poem by Andromeda
"

about the VTech shootings

"

Is this the real life?
I look at you,
Sitting there across from me,
With your pancakes and whip cream,
And I just
Don't
Know.
Is this the real life?
Because I saw just yesterday,
They said you died.
They announced it;
They wrote it in tears,
Scrolling words on the TV.
They screamed you died.
They wailed you died.
And I wept
You died.
And yet, here you are.
You sit before me and munch along,
Telling me of all your dreams,
Smiling when you say it's just a month until summer.
And yet,
In a moment,
When I blink,
You are gone,
And I know -desolately, woefully, hopelessly,
I know
You're gone.
You sit before me,
So happy and so free
Only in a dream.
When I wake up,
You will be gone,
The calendar reading April 17th
(The real life and
Not a nightmare after all).
