Chapter 22

Chapter 22

A Chapter by Sofia

We got to the school and immediately after parking I leaped out of my truck and ran into the school. John and Leo were on my heels.
"Cafeteria! Quick!" Leo yelled to me. For once the teachers let us run through the halls without a nasty look. No one was around to be hit.
"Jenna! Susan!" I yelled as I reached the cafeteria. I saw them both sprawled on the ground. Jenna was knocked out with a bloody nose and several scratches on her arms and face. Susan was wide awake, in an obvious amount of pain.
"Leo, go get a doctor or an ambulance. John, get Jake and Alex. Quick!" I snapped. They ran off, both pulling out their phones.
I ran over to Susan and dropped down onto the ground beside her.
"Susan!? Can you hear me!?" I asked, frantic.
"Yes" she whispered, looking up at me.
"Tell me what happened Susan" I said, still nervous but now trying to hide it for her sake.
"I'm... I'm not sure, really. I got to school with Jenna. We were planning to me Alex and Jake for breakfast. We got to the cafeteria and there was a bright flash of light, a lot of slashing and screaming, and suddenly we were on the floor. A crowd of teachers were standing just outside the cafeteria but they couldn't get in for some reason. Jenna passed out not long before you guys got here" she explain, her voice raspy.
"Okay, you just hang in there, Leo went to get help and John went to get the boys. Tell me where it hurts the worst" I said, breathing deep to keep myself calm.
"My left arm and right leg. It hurts just to twitch a finger or a toe" she whispered.
I looked uneasily first at her left arm. It was obviously broken, snapped almost in two. I held back a shudder as I moved my eyes down to her right leg. I nearly threw up from what I saw. A sharp piece of bone was sticking almost entirely out of her leg. A very thin layer of skin was keeping the white from sticking out. She was in terrible shape but I wasn't about to scare her and let her be in pain.
"It's not too bad. Just a couple of broken bones. Doctors should be able to fix it up in no time" I lied. She had a few cuts and bruises too, but nothing as serious as her arm and leg.
"How bad is Jenna?" Susan asked, tears already slipping down her face. She either caught my lie or the pain was just now hitting her. I hoped for the latter of the two. That meant she still had nerves.
"A few cuts and bruises, a bloody nose and..." I glanced back at Jenna. She was in pretty bad shape too but from what I could see she'd be fine. "Looks like that's about it" I told her, hoping it was true.
I heard the sirens of an ambulance approaching. Not long after a second siren could be heard. Jake and Alex arrived a few minutes before the ambulances. They were horrified with what they saw. Jake went straight to Jenna and Alex started toward Susan. I met him halfway and growled into his ear "You tell her the truth and you're gonna get it. She's got a couple of broken bones, that's all. Understand?"
Alex nodded and continued toward Susan like our encounter hadn't happened,
Four men, two to a stretcher, ran in. They showed no emotion when they saw the girls, obviously with a similar mindset as me. Don't scare them. Susan reached towards me as they carried her past. I touched her fingertips and then she was gone. Jenna followed after, being carried on her own stretcher.
I heard more sirens in the distance. Police. Great. Just what I needed. I knew I would be questioned since I was their best friend. They knew by now that Susan had been awake when I got here and expected she would have told me something. I had no issue with that. I'd tell them everything Susan told me with no alterations to the story. I wanted to know what had happened to my best friends and, if done by a person, I wanted justice.
