Chapter 9

Chapter 9

A Chapter by Sofia

John, Jake, Susan, and Jenna picked me up the next morning in John's truck again. We drove to pick up breakfast from McDonald's before heading off to school.
We got to school with plenty of time to eat and hang out without feeling rushed. Eventually, though, I knew I'd have I face him. So, I gathered up my things and headed to the practice rooms.
He was there, waiting calmly, trumpet in hand, music on the stand. I pulled out my own sheet of music and put my flute together with such speed and precision that it was obvious I'd done it many, many times before.
I tuned quickly and easily before we started practicing. We ran through the piece once before we started tweaking some difficulties.
We spent all of first period working on the piece. With just enough time left to put the music and instruments into our lockers, we said nothing to each other. That wouldn't last, though. We headed to second and third period in silence until he finally spoke first on the way to fourth.
"I'm sorry about yesterday" he said.
I was tempted to ignore him but I knew that wouldn't solve anything.
"No... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lost it like that. You didn't know how I feel about my full name" I replied.
"No. I should've picked up on it. My dad told me how you flinched when he used your full name. I should've listened to him"
I glanced at him warily, my eyes searching his face. All I foun there was regret and sincerity in his apology.
"Alright. I forgive you. But solely so we can work on this piece without tension" I teased.
Leo bowed low. "Of course. Nothing more" he teased back, winking.
"Get to class you two!" A teacher down the hall called.
When Leo turned to answer her, however, she was immediately silenced.
"Ah... Yes... Mr. D's son. So sorry sir" she said hesitantly.
"Forgot to mention he's my dad, didn't I?" Leo questioned.
I nodded, grinning. We headed off to class.

Not very many good stories about music like this; high school music. I find it’s quite well written and relatable. Nice job!
