Chapter 6

Despite having all the same classes, Leo and I didn't speak again until the last bell rang. I had already texted my dad, telling him a friend was taking me home, we were practicing. I headed straight for the band hall to get my instrument, hoping to be able to avoid him until the practice rooms. That didn't happen.
"Sam" Leo called in a harsh tone. I flinched, not turning to face him.
"What?" I asked calmly, resisting the urge to turn and slap his face for his rude tone.
Leo stopped right behind me but, seeing my fists clench tightly, didn't turn me to face him. "You lied back there and I know it!" He spat. "Now whàt did they tell you!?" He demanded.
"Nothing that you need concern yourself with. Now, if I must remind you, we have to practice for this duet!" I said through clenched teeth. I wanted to spin around and knock him upside the head for his rude and harsh tone but I restrained myself. I couldn't afford to be kicked out of school and my karate classes before I'd even begun.
Leo finally forced me to turn and look at him. "I want the whole truth. Now!" He hissed.
"You want the truth!? Fine! They told me that every new girl gets your exact schedule and shortly after arriving are never seen or heard from again! And I guess the whole school knows that since every person I've met today have looked on my with pity, like very soon I'm going to die and everyone knows it but me!" I spat, finally losing it. I shoved him away from me and stormed down the halls, more terrified than angry.
"Get back here, Samantha!" The use of my full name brought back the horriblemenory of that night, merely a year ago. I flinched, stumbled, and fell onto my hands and knees. My breath started coming in gasps and tears ran down my face. The feeling of terror abandoned me then. I felt only anger and sadness.
Leo approached me cautiously, all his anger gone. "Sam-"
"Shut up" I spat. "Just shut up. Don't say another word to me" I stood with surprising speed and grasped the front of his shirt. "If you EVER use my full name again, I promise you I will make your life miserable!" I hissed.
Leo swallowed uneasily. I pushed him away and continued on my way down the hall.
