Chapter 2

I jumped out of the car and shut the door. Without a glance back, I walked into my new school and straight to the front office to get my schedule. It looked simple enough, most of my classes in the same building. I was about to set off to find my first class when the principal stepped out of his office.
"Ah. You must be Samantha" he said. I flinched at his use of my full name but showed no other signs of what had happened.
"Yes sir, that's me" I answered.
"I am Mr. D, the principal. I've given you the same schedule as our best tour guide here, Leonardo, so you shouldn't feel too terribly lost. He's around here somewhere" Mr. D said calmly.
"It's fine sir. I can find my way" I protested.
"Nonsense! We wouldn't want you to be late to any of your classes, now would we?"
"No but I'm just not-"
"Ah there's the boy now! Leonardo, do come here" Mr. D called to a black-haired boy.
He ran over, head up high. "Yes sir? You wish to see me?" He asked, completely ignoring me which I was perfectly fine with.
"Miss, ah, Sam here needs a tour. I've given her your same schedule so it shouldn't be much trouble" the principal told him.
"Of course sir" he said, turning to me. His eyes were the same dark brown as mine... And as the boy's from my dreams. "Hi there. I'm Leonardo, but you can call me Leo" he said, smiling.
I returned the smile uneasily. "Uh, my friends call me Sam..." I answered.
"Sam, huh? Nice name. So if your got my schedule you must have band first period, right?"
In answer, I lifted up my flute.
"A flute player, huh? This outta be interesting. I play trumpet" he told me. "But c'mon! Mr. Smith hates it when we're late. He likes to start rehearsal a bit early" Leo said, grinning.
Leo led me out of the office and down the hall. I glanced back at the black-haired principal. Something about him made me uneasy, but I couldn't tell what.
