The fight for light

The fight for light

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

Walking in the light
cannot be
when hearts love darkness.
Words may seem luminous
yet have dark roots.

A sour fountain
cannot yield sweet water
yet the koolaid of death
is drunk each day,
promising fruit
but causing famine.

Taste, and taste again
the would-be truth on overzealous lips.
Wait for the zesty sugar-coating
to dissolve in heaven's rivers.
Reach out, and touch that light
But you cannot -
not today,
not tomorrow - do so -
if you don't
take that first step
and turn
your back
on darkness.
