On a rooftop terraceA Poem by SleeplessVolcanoA friendly cup of coffee greets me Just as the first hues of pink clouds frolic on the horizon Distant mist obscures the wind-churned ocean With every sip another nostalgic wave hits. An angry seagull cackles like a fire engine When another birds takes his treasured antenna spot It reminds me of when my spot was taken In the lofty heights of that now distant heart. A stubborn sun pushes through a thicket of clouds And tries to cheer me up with soothing warmth I close my eyes and smell saltwater’s breeze And cheat my heart and force an empty smile. My mug still offers one last sip of cold memories As morning traffic mimics my mind’s own gridlock I breathe in, deeply, thoughts of evaporated love And exhale it all into polluted skies. © 2017 SleeplessVolcanoAuthor's Note
