She lost her head, and so did I

She lost her head, and so did I

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

Her ice cold eyes reveal the curse’s truth

So many heroes failed through her wicked gaze

If jealously did not inspire her lot

More brave hearts could escape death’s maze.

I could not help to stare into her depths

I felt the surge of death freeze all my blood

If only I did not have a fool’s heart

My sanity will not be laced with mud.

Image: My own. Medusa's upside down head, as a base for a pillar in the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul. Historical superstition suggested that the presence of Medusa's head somewhere in an important building's foundation would protect the building from invasion.

The title "She lost her head, and so did I" was such an interesting title that I just got drawn in, I commend you for making such a title as I struggle to make mine exciting enough to draw readers in. As for the poem itself, it was short but sweet for me. I loved that you wrote about Medusa as I have always enjoyed reading stories about her. I loved your authors note, how instead of just having "thanks for reading" (Like I do, too often) you put about the woman you had just written about, and gave the fact that having Medusa's head somewhere in an important building foundation would protect that building from invasion. I just found that to be really intriguing. My only advice would be perhaps to make your poems slightly longer, as while I really did enjoy it, the length just made me read it and go "Oh, where's the rest". Although that is only meant as a compliment I can assure you.
