I laid my burden down

I laid my burden down

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

I laid my burden down
at the foot of the tree
I planted to remember you

I laid my burden down
The first fall
When
I saw the brown and yellow leaves.

I laid my burden down
when icy winters chilled my bones
and the only chicken soup for my soul
was forgetting happy memories.

I laid my burden down
when I realized, just in time
that my rough-around-the-edges heart
would never have fitted
in your one-size-fits-all chest cavity.

I laid my burden down
when my memory tree's death
set my thoughts of life and love, free.

WoW!!!
it is surprising how a once enthusiastically lifted load becomes much regretted burden...........
it is wise to lay it down.......once the hints of yellow begin showing.....

beautifully written.....
i loved it!!!
