It must have been love

It gave me love
So it must be true
If the pen is mightier than the sword, then
Why are so many poets heart-broken?
Love only has one syllable
But in my heart it has many,
Maybe too many
It is easy to say
And for players to play
So was it really true?
The litmus test?
Did it last?
Is that fair?
Life's not fair,
And love is neither.
