California dreamingA Poem by SleeplessVolcanoOnce upon some footprints in the sandEach one telling me how much they missed you. I scolded them and said they should not grow there But they protested vehemently And maintained that their seeds were scattered In this place for a reason - To wait for the few days in a year That you'll seek some summer sun And then they can reach the nirvana of their purpose - To bask in the light of your beauty. I still questioned my flower-listening sanity When I heard your soft voice calling my name Slightly moistened by the salty sea spray I am glad you made it Your happy voice cooed While I took the haphazard garland I made From patient white and yellow daisies And folded it into your windswept hair My glance splashed on the wide open beaches Of your glistening, anticipating eyes My lips reached closer to your slightly hidden ear And I whispered while you cackled a muzzled giggle, Darling, I never left.
