Fake smile

Fake smile

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano
"

"better than a fake frown?"

"

Thanks for the call my friend
You said I looked a bit worn last night
I did; I still do. Thanks for noticing
But I am a master of panacean platitudes -
Playing musical chairs, with my shape-shifting attitudes
You know it's a guy thing. Our stumbling block egos -
Keen to discuss those happy highs, but mum about all lows
Which threaten to suck up all my life force
Like alien reeds growing in a reservoir dam.
The deterioration from without caused by heat
And from within, my comfortable defeat
But I won't burden you with the chutzpah of my chicanery
My brave face impersonation
Numbs most niggling sensations
So I'll ignore my heart's cry over this reality
And sacrifice my pain,
on my alter of simmering superficiality.

Another flowing piece full of pathos. There was a piece recently entitled 'Masks' and in fact I wrote one with the same title to describe the fact that sometimes when we have lost confidence after a trauma we feel conspicuous and think everyone else is sorted.Whereas they are simply wearing masks or a fake smile.

Seriously speaking................Till date I have like read about a 100 poems on this topic like faking smiles, faking,i am faking it,blah blah.
But the content of such a mainstream topic by you can be so intriguing which such an amazing choice and placement of words made my 2 mins 15 secs quite successful and interesting.
You really write very well, inspite of being an oldie;D
NO OFFENCE!
Old is gold----True that!:)

This is such a painful write... and one that hits too close to home for so many. The shallow veil we often cover ourselves with keeps us ever at a distance... even from ourselves. And you say it so well... so painfully well.

That's what we do. Show the world our bright side, brave face and hide the truth. Well written.

We all hide behind that fake smile and most the time we think
we're getting by on those around us, but those that know us
best don't fall for our front, sounds like you have someone that
noticed and cares, PTL! Thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

It's not just a man thing to hide behind a fake smile. Women do it too. Everyone has their problems so why "burden" someone else with yours. Ya, I feel that way too. I suspect your truthful write is an epidemic of thought and feeling.
