Anonymous Poet

Anonymous Poet

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

I shroud myself in word veils,

Hoping that little permeates,

My carefully hidden persona,

Which always seeks to create -

Something fresh,

Something new,

Words that mesh.

Like drops of dew.

But I fail, time and time again,

And show, perhaps, too much of me -

Sliding back into my safe, sure shell

 Is this the promise that I’ll be free?

Maybe tomorrow

Maybe the next day

I may find rest

On the wave’s crest.

It is better to be blissfully unknown;

Better to not seek vain significance;

Better to be content in not knowing,

And accept a latent indifference.

One day light

Will show the way,

Without a fight,

I’ll have a new name.

I enjoyed this little gem of a work, not only is it a true reflection of the poet wishing for anonymity, it reflects me. We all value our private lives, we do not want uninvited guests into our most secret haven. We are solitary people, writers write in boathouses, and attic rooms, roof spaces and beach dunes, sheltered from intrusion.

We like to have friends, but not all the time, we like to withdraw to contemplate before the memories vanish, or the analysis stop.

We unveil ourselves like onions, peeling away the out skin, our veneers one by one until we are naked, but not now, not today.

The problems you have shown are all of us that write, and if we remain anonymous, will anyone remember our work?

I really did enoy this poem.
