A simple childlike question, stirring more questions.....
If brown bear, sitting snug on the balcony
Would suddenly slip
Losing his comfortable grip
On life and love
What would his end be like?
Would he just go to the trash heap?
Or could a better place be imagined?
It is difficult to say, really,
He was a good bear, well, nearly
I would like to believe there is space
Up there, for bears without eyes
With broken, torn limbs
Only living lows, never any highs
Surely everything being made new,
One day,
Should include teddy too?
Do people with big hearts go to heaven ............ or are they tossed away when some piece of them is broken
because everyone loves a bear when its new
What happens when its shabby and torn
I guess a loyal owner
would keep that bear forever
So many ways this could be interpreted, and in as much that your intro comment expressed "childlike" question, it does not necessarily persuade me away from an adult asking it; can we all not ask childlike questions and have childlike thoughts, feelings, even childlike actions — such as, intentionally falling off a balcony?
For me, in the following lines lie the key to this deeply-thoughtful poem in Freeverse:
"Losing his comfortable grip
On life and love"
Whatever your intent, the essence of your words strike one's core with human emotion, and is this not the effect of most all excellent poetry(?) … I think so, and yours is certainly excellent.
The only offering I'll make would be to break the length of your first line at, "bear," and to capitalize "Teddy", as it was named after Teddy Roosevelt.
What a sentimental thought, to take Teddy with one on their afterlife journey.
A brilliant work, My Friend, very much enjoyed, and admired … thank you so! ⁓ Richard

When composing (especially, in the Freeverse Form), it is my contention one should always "just let it flow", with powerful poetic voice and proper line-breaks, of course. : )
To know I've (in some way) inspired your desire to write, and do it better, makes my effort to leave meaningful reviews feel all the more worthwhile … thank you for the feeling, Dear Poet! ⁓ RJ

i would like to think there would be a teddy bear heaven.
i really like the perspective of this piece, it reminds me of gwendolyn brooks...she wrote many poems from the perspective of children.

Thanks Jacob......a childlike perspective can often be an eye-opener
Good grief volcano... This brought tears to my eyes. You have a loving and sensitive spirit. A question for all to think and ponder. Hugging the teddy..
