Chapter 30

Chapter 30 of "Forbidden Love."

I hit my target. The bullet logged itself in the hunters back and he collapsed to the ground. After he fell, all was silent. By then the grocery store had been deserted of all people except us three. I looked over and didn’t see Quil. No… My throat felt like sandpaper and my death grip on my gun felt like Jell-o.

          “Q…Quil?” I croaked taking a step as my shoes crunched on glass, “Quil?!”

          “I’m okay!” he said coming up from behind a mini soda fridge. I sighed a breath of relief and ran into his arms.

          “Thank God!” My words were muffled by his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly.

          “Nice shot.” He said kissing my head. I laughed,

          “Thanks.” I picked up the sounds of wailing police cars off in the distance.

          “We better go…the cops are gonna be here in about a minute.”

          “Alright let’s go, I’ll drive.” We ran out to our car but then I realized something.

          “Wait!” I shouted.

          “What?”

          “We have to ditch the car.”

          “What!? No way uh-uh not happening.” Quil stood by the muscle car shaking his head vigorously.

          “Quill, we don’t have time! Let’s just take that one and go!” I said pointing to silver Ford Taurus.

          “No way!”

          “Quil, COME ON! I told you not to get attached to it. Now let’s go.” I said grabbing my stuff from the backseat and starting towards the other car.

          “But…I….UGH FINE!” Quil trudged over to the car and pulled his stuff out. In a rush someone left the car unlocked and left the keys in the ignition.

          We threw our stuff in the back and Quil jumped in the passenger’s seat. I started the car and the destroyed Stop & Shop was already getting smaller and smaller by the time the cops showed up.

          “Phew just in time huh?” I said. But I saw Quil had a permanent scowl on his face, still sulking about leaving his car. I sighed. Quil mumbled something that sounded like,

          “I miss my baby.”

          “Men and their cars” I laughed.
