Chapter 27 of "Forbidden Love."

I froze midway in my reach. Switching into immediate fight or flight mode a thousand moves formed in my head. But they were all useless considering I had NO knowledge of the person “supposedly” following us. So I decided to let the enemy reveal himself. I grabbed the coffee cakes nonchalant and pushed my cart along. Quil seemed to get the message because he just walked along side me but close enough to hear me whisper,

          “Where are they?”

          “About four aisles away from us.”

          “Alright but just to be sure.” I took a sharp turn and sped walked down the cereal aisle. I tried not to run so fast that I was a blur but sometimes I lose touch to how fast I’m moving and how people see me. I took another abrupt turn but slowed down into a normal pace as I walked past the fish deli with the tank of live lobster.

          “Are they still following us?” I whispered trying hard not to move my lips too much.

          “Yes.”

I bit my lip in frustration.

          “Damn.”

          “What do we do?” he asked as he threw a loaf of bread in casually.

          “We certainly can’t take them on here, too many people. The best thing is to get out of here and hopefully lose them on the road.”

          “Alright.”

I hustled up to the independent check out and immediately began to scan our items while Quil was at the end bagging. Just as I was about to cash out I heard a faint snick! It could only be heard with my ears. And it was the sound of a gun being cocked. Then a woman screamed confirming my fears.
