Chapter 5

Chapter 4 in "Forever My Love."

The doorbell rang as it echoed through the entire house.

“Ugh! Mom I’ll get it!” I said racing down the stairs still trying to put on my left earring. Whoever this was NOT a good time. It was 10:00 am and I was on my way to meet Zach at his guitar lesson. Using my free hand I opened the front door and came face to face with a cop.  I could tell the guy was new. He was young maybe in his late 20’s early 30’s.  I could tell by the look on his face he had really grave news. Maybe a dead relative, but I didn’t have time.

“Mom,” I called, “Cop!” Then to him, “C’mon in.” I completely ignored him as I searched for my shoe. My mom came running in wearing her usual business suit. I ran into the kitchen still on the hunt for my shoe. I came back and said, “Mom have you seen my”but the look on her face made me stop dead in my tracks. I was right, someone had died.

“What?” I asked. The officer bowed his head “I’m very sorry.” he said, and then he left as quickly as he had came.

“Honey please sit-“

“Is dad okay?”

“Yes he’s fine.”

“Grandma and-”

“Yes their both fine.”

“Then who…” my voice trailed off. Zach suddenly jumped to mind.

“Zach he’s okay right?” My mom took a deep breath as if to say something but averted her eyes.  A lump formed in my throat and I mouthed the word “mom.”

“Mom! Tell me Zach’s okay.” Nothing. Finally she looked up at me and whispered “I’m sorry.” I ran into the kitchen grabbed my keys to my little red bug (and my shoe) and ran outside.  I slammed the car door shut but immediately it opened again. It was my mom.

“Let me drive.” she said. Without arguing I slid over to the passenger seat. We drove the way Zach would’ve gone if he was on his way to his lessons. Finally we came to the accident.  Even though it was pouring rain out I could make out every detail around me. Zach’s black Cadillac was smashed against a telephone pole. It looked as if a giant had crushed it between their hands. I scanned the area until my eyes found a body strapped to a gurney that was being hauled into the back of an ambulance. The persons face was covered with a white sheet. I leaped out of the car and raced straight for the body.  I ducked under the police tape but was stopped by a bald cop. I screamed my head off and struggled with everything I had but he didn’t seem to be breaking a sweat. Mr. and Mrs. Willows spotted me and told big fat bald to let me go. I darted past him and came running up to them, out of breathe I asked, “Zach where is he?!?” Mrs. Willow’s eyes were red and puffy. Either she had early allergies or she had been crying for a while. Mr. Willows hugged his wife and that was all he really could do. I moved past them and jumped into the ambulance. The paramedics looked annoyed but they still shut the doors with me inside and took off.  I slowly peeled back the blanket and saw Zach’s blue eyes were open. He was starring up forever but never seeing anything. I slipped my hand under the light sheet until I held his hand. His skin was still warm as if he was still alive, but I felt no pulse in his wrist. I slightly leaned over and shut his eyes forever.  I kissed his hand and cupped it around the left side of my face like he had done so many times before. Zach was dead, my other half was gone.

Wow i loved how dramatic thiswas. it was so sad! :( a bit rushed though and I think you could have added this to what what was left of ch 4 but it wa a good cliffhanger you left.
