Chapter 21 n "Silent"

I was waiting for myself to wake up to Mrs. Brown yelling at me or my mom shaking my shoulder. But after I while I realized this was real.

Travis’s lips were soft and warm. We were almost the same height so I didn’t have to strain my neck to reach his lips. He was barely touching me as if he was afraid he would break me. I pulled away from him and tried to push myself out of his arms but his grip only tightened.

“I can’t.” I was so surprised by how my voice sounded so weak and feeble. When I spoke he let me go, but he stayed close. I felt lost without his arms around me. The winter air bit at my bare arms making me shiver.

“Paige,” he turned me towards him again “I’ll leave you alone forever if you can tell me you don’t love me.” I felt tears well up in my eyes. As they streaked down my face he wiped them away with his thumbs. I shook my head again.

“I can’t tell you that.” He smiled and finally said the words I had only dreamed of hearing him say,

“I love you, Paige.” This time I kissed him. Looping my arms around his neck, I pulled him close to me closing the small space between us. He still kissed me softly but I kissed him harder. He breathed into my mouth and I bit down on his lip. I felt the warmth radiating of his body like waves. I felt him tremble and heard him let out a quiet moan. I was trembling but not from the cold. My heart was pounding against my chest. We kissed as if we needed each other for air. When we broke apart we were both breathing hard.

“Whoa.” I let out a shaky laugh in agreement. Right then I realized people were starring. I blushed and hid my face in the arc of Travis’s neck. I felt him release my hair as it tumbled down my back. Looking up at him he must’ve realized my puzzled look. “You look better with your hair down.” I smiled.

“Walk me home?” he reached for my hand and we began walking towards my house. We talked about normal things like music and favorite movies. But most of the time we were silent and I was staring up at him.

“You’re doing it again.” he said.

“What?”

“Staring at me.” I blushed but my eyes stayed on him.

“I’m sorry I’m just waiting for you to disappear.” I confessed.

“Huh?”

“Every time something good happens to me it disappears.” I dropped my eyes to my shoes pretending to be fascinated with my toes. When we reached my front steps he turned me towards him and cupped my face in his hands.

“I’m not going anywhere Paige,” he reassured.

“I know.” I smiled up at him and somehow I believed him. Travis kissed me goodbye and left me standing there feeling like a completely different girl.
