Cage of Solitude

Cage of Solitude

A Poem by Skylah Ginette

The songbird croons

A melancholy tune

From her cage of bones.

She sings for the skulls

Festering at her feet,

Leaving her alone-

Alone with the indoors,

Walls cracked in neglect,

Paper peeling and paling.

She breaks free

In her mind

With her woeful wailing.

But if freedom

Is fresh air,

She is prisoner.

No one will save her.

For all her songs,

There is no listener.

She will cry

Until feathers

Expose flesh.

I really like this, this is a unique work of art!! Dark too, she seems caught in a cycle of upset that she is alone from the skulls at her feet, yet she wants exposed flesh. I think I understood that right. Let me know if I didn't. Great structure and rhyming, it isn't the obvious. Lovely poem.
