Suicide Society

Suicide Society

A Poem by Skylah Ginette

We are dying.

As a nation,

A people,

A planet.

Sick minds stalk the streets-

Smart people stay inside

(with their sick secrets)

Everyone has scars,

Events of definition.

We keep them covered.

No one can know

Who I am

Or why.

People are afraid of pain,

Of emotion,

Of trust.

The root of evil

Exists in all of us,

Propelling us

To Pride,

Greed,

Envy,

Sloth,

Lust,

Gluttony,

Wrath.

Some wage war on these temptations,

Most succumb to them.

We kill ourselves.
